Winter health

We are starting to head into our normal cold and flu season and it is still a good idea to support your immune system. As always, get your immune boosting Vitamin D daily. I find it easier to eat my breakfast in the early morning sun and have an afternoon walk most days.

The cooler weather allows for all of those beautiful soup and slow cooker recipes to make an appearance. Incorporate some garlic, ginger and onions not to mention fresh thyme, sage, coriander and parsley to give your immune system a boost. A beautiful chicken soup with some of these herbs always seems to help in recovery from winter colds and flus. As a learner naturopath many years ago, I was taught to cook chicken soup with the bones for the strongest healing effect.

If you are interested in home remedies, tea made from fresh thyme is great for coughs, sage tea is soothing for a sore throat and fresh ginger tea will not only support your immunity and improve circulation, but will warm you from the inside and boost your chi (energy).

If you have been self prescribing immune herbs, in particular Andrographis, you may need to be mindful that Andrographis is a strong immune herb and is not meant to be taken long term. Unless prescribed for you, continuous use of Andrographis for two weeks only is now recommended by one of the well known manufacturers.

I will be continuing with my personal immune support program leading into winter including my immune herbs, Vitamin C and zinc. For existing clients, if you would like the practitioner quality version of these supplements in my Immune Kit, I can provide these delivered to your door for $85, with options for a Super Booster Immune Kit available.
